Castorama Poland: Reinventing Technology for the Future

This month’s cover story is made in Poland where Castorama, part of the Kingfisher group that also owns B&Q, Screwfix and Brico Dépôt, is one of Europe’s leading home improvement retailers. Chief Product & Technology Officer, Michal Zych, explains why culture, not technology, is the real catalyst for its digital transformation. “The culture I want to sustain is very simple. Make an impact. Stay together. Ask the right questions. Be curious. And have fun. We’ve been putting the basics of omnichannel ecommerce in place. Now we can focus and make greater impact on the customer.”

OSPI: Building the Technology Foundations for the Future of Education in Washington State

Ted Loran, CIO at Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), reveals how his team’s approach to technology is safeguarding public K–12 education and putting the people first. “As much as we like the idea of a teacher in a classroom with worksheets and books, technology is now a critical part of education. Those that don’t have equal access to it are often at a disadvantage. And that’s something this agency is very keenly interested in helping alleviate.”

Standard Bank: From Digital to Intelligent Transformation

Sibusiso (Sibu) Ngubeni, Executive Head for Data & Analytics, reveals how Standard Bank is building a data-led future to support colleagues and customers in 21 countries of operation across sub-Saharan Africa. “You can have an outstanding data platform or the right quality data, but you cannot get that done without driving the culture. The question is no longer simply do we have the data? We must now ask, is the data trusted? Is it accessible? Is it sufficiently contextualised? Then the bank can truly aspire to be a trusted advisor.”

Also in this issue, we hear from Confluent on why AI in financial services is only as strong as the data behind it; learn from Skillsoft about why skills visibility is the missing key to a successful AI strategy; and Saviynt argue that the Wild West period of agentic AI needs to be controlled to bring security and order from chaos.
